Spalding Round Table help to transform Phoebe’s life
The members of Spalding Round Table have played a major role in transforming the life of one member of their local community.
The Table’s donation of £6000 after an appeal in the local newspaper, The Spalding Voice, alongside donations from other parts of the community, has funded the purchase of a powered wheelchair for 16-year-old Phoebe Matthews.
Fundraising was complete within a week of the appeal for donations during September and Phoebe received her new chair just days before Christmas.
Her mother Amanda said: “It made her Christmas. Instead of counting how many sleeps there were until Christmas, Phoebe was saying ‘how many sleeps until my chair comes?’ That was all she wanted, and when it came she couldn’t wait to get in it.”
Phoebe suffers from cerebral palsy and the new chair will allow her stand up whenever she chooses to, not only offering a great deal more independence to her life, but also playing a significant role in her physiotherapy programme.
As well as the £6000 donation from the Table, the Easy Rise Genie V.2 chair was funded thanks to other contributions from The Iris O’Brien Foundation (£2500), Holbeach charity shop Chosen (£1,000), Moore Thompson accountants (£500) and an online appeal for donations which bought in (£2300).
The Spalding Round Table are able to help people just like Phoebe thanks to the brilliant support and funds they raise in their local community, through events including their annual beer festival and boxing event. To find out more about Spalding RT events visit their Facebook page.
All the money raised by the 400+ Round Table’s across the UK is put straight back into improving the lives of people in the local community.
